SCRANTON (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — On Thursday, President-elect Joe Biden announced a $1.9 trillion "rescue" plan that would go toward economic relief caused by COVID-19.
Dubbed the "American Rescue Plan," the nearly $2 trillion bill would expedite vaccine rollouts and disburse $1,400 relief deposits.
With those primary motives, the plan is also highlighting indirect, secondary focuses of stabilizing the economy and reopening schools safely with the injection of economic aid.
While the plan is still only a proposal, U.S. Senator Bob Casey added his two cents on the potential passing of the American Rescue Plan.
"The plan released by President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris is a substantial down payment on building back better. The agenda will provide relief for working families, dollars to contain COVID-19, funding to prevent service cuts and local government layoffs of law enforcement, firefighters, and public health workers, and critical investments in education, which will help children return to school and learn," Casey stated.
"Congress should work quickly to pass this plan. Our Nation is in crisis and we need to come together to put this plan on President Biden’s desk so he can sign it into law."
