It’s another one of those, “wanna feel old” reminders.
Remember Y2K, the millennium and the excitement and anxiety that was the year 2000?
If you do, we have some depressing news for you.
We reached the halfway point between 2000 and 2050 on July 2, 2025.
Now, we’re officially closer to the far off, distant year of 2050 than we are from the beginning of the new millennium.
If you’re a little over 30 or older, the year 2000 may seem like it wasn’t all that long ago, but as you get older, time seems to go by faster.
It might seem like time accelerates as we get older, but it’s all about perception.
Scientists say when we are young, we have a much shorter timeline of experience.
When you’re 10-years-old, half of your life was only 5 years ago.
When you’re 40, you were already an adult at 20-years-old, halfway through your life up to that point.
Another reason is the large amount of new experiences you have when you’re young. That takes a lot of brain processing
As you get older, you’re used to most of the experiences around. There are no brand-new experiences like your first day of school, first lost tooth, first girl/boyfriend etc.
Those first-time experiences stretch time out. As we get used to going through the motions of our daily lives, time appears to speed up.
But back to being closer to the year 2050...
It’s still crazy to think we’re closer to 2050 compared to 2000, no matter how you look at it!
