The Steelers hired a new offensive line coach on Tuesday. 20-year coaching veteran Pat Meyer has spent the past two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

Charlotte radio station WFNZ's Nick Wilson, a talk show host, didn't really give a ringing endorsement of Meyer on the PM Team.

Wilson says Meyer got fired and, "one of the reasons Pat likes his veterans but doesn't care if they're good."

Wilson then clarified and said that it isn't that he doesn't care if they' re good, "it's that if given the option between young guy with upside who might be a little raw or crappy veteran, he chose crappy veteran."

After the first three games of the season, Wilson says that the offensive line gave up 45 sacks over the last 14 games.

When asked if Pat Meyer is any good, Wilson simply said "no."

Before his time with the Panthers, Meyer had three seasons with the Chargers and a pair with the Bears.  He also was an offensive line coach for a season in the Canadian Football League.

His college work includes time as a graduate assistant at Memphis in 1997, a strength and conditioning coach at NC State for six years before becoming the Wolfpack's offensive line coach.  Meyer also served on the strength and conditioning staff at Florida State and was offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Colorado State, where he played.

When asked about the pros of hiring Meyer by former Steeler linebacker Arthur Moats, Wilson started talking about Carolina Barbecue…so there you go.
