Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said on Monday that if the season were to start today, it would be Mason Rudolph starting under center for the team.
Former Steelers safety and Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark says if that's the case then they "have failed as an organization."
The ESPN NFL analyst made those comments on "Get Up" Tuesday morning.
"They are no longer the Pittsburgh Steelers I love, or the fans of Pittsburgh love," said Clark.
Colbert also said they are not a team that rebuilds that that will continue to be the case into the future.
If they expect to be a championship-caliber team going into 2022 with Rudolph, Clark says they're mistaken.
Rudolph has a 5-4-1 record with the Steelers and as Clark points out, the defense averaged giving up only 13 points in each of those victories.
"That means, if a team scores more than 13 points when Mason Rudolph is the quarterback, you gonna lose," said Clark.
While Clark says he doesn't want to bash Rudolph but that he is just an average quarterback and doesn't have what it takes to beat a Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow, let alone a Patrick Mahomes.
The Steelers and the outgoing Colbert need to recognize they made a mistake putting a first round grade on Rudolph when they drafted him in the third round of the 2018 draft.
