PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers did make some receiver changes, but the team is looking to do more. Veteran Gabe Davis was at the team facility on Thursday and there are rumors about other players. As for what the current group of receivers think?

The reality is there is not much they can say. It’s not new for Calvin Austin, he said he dealt with all of the talk last year. In his now 13-year career, first-year Steeler Robert Woods has seen a lot.

“We look at the plays,” Woods said after the end of voluntary workouts. “We come out here and practice. Whoever is at practice, that is who we go against. Whoever is on our team we welcome them. We don’t look at who is coming in. Who they are bringing in for workouts. It doesn’t matter.”

“It’s the offseason. It’s part of the game. Guys are going to come and go. (GM) Omar (Khan) is trying to build the best roster he can. That’s challenging guys and making the room always competitive. It’s part of the game.”

“At this point in my career, I don’t look at that. Hopefully these young guys are not looking at it either. We’ve got a job to earn and just come out and do our job.”

Woods said this group of receivers just come out and works. Austin said they are just trying to get better and be explosive.

DK Metcalf will bring that when he is expected to join the team for mandatory mini-camp next week. Beyond that, each is chipping in what they can. Austin is trying to build on last year in a contract season for him. Roman Wilson is trying to prove he was worth a third-round pick after last year was a washout. Woods said he will fill whatever role they want and Ben Skowronek and Scotty Miller have familiarity with Arthur Smith’s offense.

Austin said from their position coach Zach Azzanni on down, this group has an edge about them. They play for each other. Until other players are brought in, they are trying to control what they can.
