PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- The great Ben Roethlisberger debate will continue until we get more definitive answers from the Steelers and/or from Ben himself about his future with the franchise.

Should he come back or not? Will he? Would it be what’s best for the franchise?

NFL Network analyst Marc Ross joined The Fan Morning Show Tuesday. Ross spent two decades in the NFL total, mostly in player scouting and evaluation. He was with the New York Giants for 11 years, winning two Super Bowls during his time and served as the Vice President of Player Evaluation for five seasons and spent six seasons as the Director of College Scouting.

Ross was asked what he would be thinking in terms of what to do about Roethlisberger for 2021.

Here’s his answer:

“Man, what a tough situation that you’re in. Look, if the Ben you want from last year (in) a diminished role, is that what they want? Sure, go with Ben again. To possibly make the playoffs, I don’t know. The defense will have to be even more dominant and there’s some issues there with the Bud Dupree’s of the world that you have to sign.

“Pittsburgh has always been a Super Bowl team. Like we’re going into the season to win the Super Bowl and I just don’t think, realistically, they can sit there and say that Ben Roethlisberger can get them to the Super Bowl and certainly win a Super Bowl anymore.”

This is also a situation that Ross is very familiar with, having been in New York for all those years.

“The problem with teams with someone like Ben, and I was with the New York Giants with Eli Manning, where you let your feelings and let your heart dictate what you see on film and what you see every day and knowing this guy can’t do it anymore.

You’re not turning back the clock. There’s only one Tom Brady. That’s it in the history of football. So more than likely, Ben will be even worse than he was last year so you have to decide.

I think it was a good move to sign Haskins. I don’t think he’s the answer, but at least it was a step in the right direction.”
