Former Pirates starter Falter moved to Royals bullpen

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He had one of the greatest months by a starting pitcher in Pirates history, now weeks after being traded to the Royals, Bailey Falter lost his spot in the rotation.

The 28-year-old was 7-5 with a 3.73 ERA in 22 starting with the Bucs this year, a 1.18 WHIP and .232 batting average against. In May, Falter was 3-0 with a 0.76 ERA and 0.84 WHIP with a .147 ERA against in six starts and did it against the Padres twice, the Mets, Reds, Brewers and Braves, only Atlanta is not in a playoff chase.

He has struggled in two starts with KC. In his first against Boston, 4 innings, 8 hits, 7 earned runs and a pair of walks. Last time out against Washington, another 4 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and overall 164 pitches, 103 for strikes. Just back from the injured list, Michael Lorenzen will take his spot.

Falter is up for arbitration this year, but is under team control through 2028.
