PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He visited the Steelers for one of the 30 pre-draft visits, fortunately for Iowa defensive lineman Logan Lee he wasn’t able to run over Mike Tomlin in his meeting.

Lee explained the first time he met him, or literally ran into him, he was at a Nike camp in high school with Tomlin’s son.

“I was running down the field and I accidently ran into him,” Lee recalled Saturday. “I was like ‘oops, sorry sir’. I went ‘oh my gosh, you are Coach Tomlin’. I was just freaking out.”

Lee said he did end up testing well and went to Iowa where he became a three-year starter now 6’5”, 281 pounds on the Hawkeyes defensive line. He had a 10-tackle, 2.5 tackle for loss, two sack game against Purdue in 2023. He’s had a couple of blocked kicks in his career and that’s likely where his career starts, on special teams.

“He fits the Steelers mold,” said Steelers defensive line coach Karl Dunbar, adding he will likely play more in the interior of the D-line. “He’s a strong-handed big man and I think he’s very, very mature. We were looking for the right fit at the right time and I think we got that with Logan Lee.”

Lee grew up watching the Steelers and laughed when asked if he went to Iowa to wear black and gold. He grew up around Chicago, but was influenced into Steeler fandom by a couple of friends.

“I started really getting into the thickness, the historical NFL stuff,” Lee explained. “I just loved the Steel Curtain era stuff. I loved watching Mel Blount slam people on their heads. I was always a big Steelers fan growing up.”

Now the former wrestler is another piece to the puzzle with his size, length and his ability to do a lot of things and a young addition to a room that could use some more youth.
