Aliquippa Football Wins Appeal To Stay In Class 4A

The Aliquippa football team is staying in class 4A after winning their appeal. The PIAA board voted 21 to 4 in favor of Aliquippa staying in the class they played in last year.

According to the PIAA, the success of the team and the number of transfers was the reason the team was going to move to 5A. Based strictly on enrollment Aliquippa is a 1A school but they have been playing in a higher class for years because of the success the football program has been having.

The biggest concern was Aliquippa having a much lower number of players on the team compared to over 100 kids on the 5A teams. With injuries, Aliquippa would have even lower numbers throughout the season.

Aliquippa will look to repeat as 4A champs this fall.
