We're just a couple of weeks into the high school basketball season, but we have already seen some fantastic individual performances on the hardwood.

This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous week. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL boys and girls classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.

Here are the top performances from Week 1:

Sam Deibert, Mt. Lebanon

Deibert helped Mt. Lebanon bounce back from its first loss of the season Friday.

The senior scored 24 points as the Blue Devils took care of Hempfield, 58-38, in their Section 2-6A opener.

The 6-foot-6 forward's efforts were needed, and will continue to be, as Mt. Lebanon plays without its top player, Liam Sheely, due to a wrist injury.

Natalia Schaffer, Fox Chapel

Following a loss Monday to Hempfield in which she score a team-best 16 points, Schaffer made sure that the Foxes got back in the win column Friday.

The senior dropped in 20 points as Fox Chapel dealt Penn Hills a 54-50 loss in Section 1-5A action.

The win pushed the Foxes record to 3-2, setting up a matchup with Gateway Tuesday night.

Calvin Winfrey, Uniontown

Uniontown may be in line for a WPIAL title run this season thanks to a deep, athletic backcourt.

Winfrey is a big part of that, and showed why Friday by scoring 30 points in a 74-49 win over nearby Albert Gallatin.

The 6-foot-1, 3-sport athlete has received collegiate interest in both football and basketball.

Tiara Curry, Seton LaSalle

Seton LaSalle has a history of strong play on the court and strong players coming from its program. That appears to be continuing in 2024-25.

Curry — like another point guard with the same surname — looked like a chef on the court Thursday, scoring 27 points in a rivalry win over Keystone Oaks, 60-57.

The section-opening win was a strong one for the Rebels, who have scored 130 points over their last two games.

The high school basketball season continues this week, as KDKA Radio will broadcast Pine-Richland vs North Allegheny Friday, as well as four games at the Holiday Hoops Classic at PPG Paints Arena Sunday.
