This past week of high school basketball brought with it some of the best games of the season, with team comebacks and massive individual scoring efforts.
This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous week. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL boys and girls classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.
Here are the top performances from Week 7:
Ama Tening Sow, Montour
Montour picked up a trio of victories this week with Sow at the center — literally — of it all.
The 6-foot-11 big man scored 19, 16 and 32 points in victories over Chartiers Valley, Blackhawk and Pine-Richland. He added a stunning 22 rebounds to his 32-point outburst against the Rams Sunday.
Montour is now 15-1 on the season with nine-straight wins, and unbeaten against WPIAL opponents.
Sow is one of the region's top recruits and is committed to Tennessee-Martin.
Payton Collins, Mt. Lebanon
Following a three-game losing streak, Mt. Lebanon has bounced back with three consecutive victories.
Collins has been key in that stretch, with 20 points in each game last week, including a 62-33 win over North Hills and a 56-47 victory against Hempfield.
The Blue Devils are now 3-3 in section play and 10-7 overall.
Collins, a senior guard, is committed to Division III Bowdoin College.
Josh Pratt, Aliquippa
Aliquippa picked up a pair of convincing wins this week, both in and out of section.
Pratt powered the Quips with 35 points against Freedom Friday night in an 87-18 win and 29 more points in a 57-43 victory over Penn Hills at the PBC Hall of Fame Classic Saturday.
The Quips moved to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in Section 1-3A as they look to defend their WPIAL and PIAA titles.
Pratt is scoring over 21 points per game this year. He has offers from Fairfield, RMU, Pepperdine, Northeastern and Hofstra.
Erica Gribble, Greensburg Central Catholic
Playing three games in three days is a challenge for any player. But Gribble made it look a bit easy last week.
Over Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Gribble poured in 25, 22 and 21 points in wins over South Allegheny, Ligonier Valley and McKeesport.
The Centurions are now 11-3 and 6-1 in Section 2-3A.
A junior, Gribble committed to play at Division I Richmond last month.
High school basketball broadcasts continue on KDKA Radio Friday as Avonworth takes on Central Valley. Coverage begins at 6 p.m. on 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA.
