The WPIAL portion of the 2024 season came to an end this weekend with four more champions being crowned. Congratulations to Fort Cherry, South Park, Avonworth and Pine-Richland on bringing home the gold.
This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous Friday night. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.
Here are the top performances from Week 13:
Elijah Faulkner, Central Catholic
While teams battled for the right to get into the PIAA playoffs, a couple of local teams began their quest to bring home state titles.
That including Central Catholic, which had little problems with State College in a 41-19 victory Friday night.
Faulkner carried the bulk of the load, rushing 38 times for 235 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
The senior tailback has taken over of late for Central Catholic, and has earned offers from Howard, Fordham, Youngstown, Villanova, Cornell, Furman, Navy and Central Michigan.
Tyler Eber, Thomas Jefferson
Like Faulkner, Eber is no stranger to the Super 7 Watch List.
After helping the Jaguars to a WPIAL title a week ago, the sophomore standout rushed 32 times for 131 yards and a touchdown in a 35-0 victory over Clearfield in Saturday's PIAA Class 4A quarterfinal.
Eber also added a 19-yard touchdown reception in the win.
The Jaguars next face Lampeter-Strasburg in Saturday's Class 4A semifinals.
Eric Doerue, South Park
Doerue has had a fantastic year for the Eagles, which claimed the WPIAL Class 2A title on Saturday.
The senior tailback rushed 34 times for 149 yards and two scores in a 21-14 win over Seton LaSalle at Acrisure Stadium.
In the win, South Park ran Eagles broke the program's total rushing yard record set by its 2005 state championship team.
Doerue has offers from Robert Morris and Bowling Green.
Jay Timmons, Pine-Richland
A familiar name to the turf at Acrisure Stadium, Timmons came up big when it mattered most Saturday.
The junior pulled in four catches for 81 yards and a touchdown in the Rams' 20-9 win over Peters Township in the WPIAL Class 5A title game.
Timmons, the son of former Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, picked up offers from Pitt and Syracuse after the game.
Pine-Richland next faces Bishop McDevitt in Friday's PIAA Class 5A semifinals.
