Teams moved into playoff positions Friday night, setting up what should be a dramatic Week 9. This past week featured a quarterback who couldn't seem to miss and three running backs who carried their teams to important wins.

This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous Friday night. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.

Here are the top performances from Week 8:

Curtis Wade, Belle Vernon

Passer ratings aren't exactly a commonly used metric in high school football. But, if they were, Wade's would have been perfect Friday.

The junior completed all 10 of his pass attempts, racking up 233 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-7 win over Ringgold.

Four of his passes went to Anthony Crews, who scored twice, as Belle Vernon went to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Big Six Conference.

Evan Morris, Canon-McMillan

Canon-McMillan grabbed a key win the the Class 6A playoff race Friday, and Morris was a big reason why.

The senior rushed for 213 yards and four scores as the Big Macs beat Norwin 27-26.

The three-sport athlete's efforts helped Canon-McMillan to their second win in conference play, keeping their playoff hopes alive heading into Week 9.

Brock Cornell, West Allegheny

One of the WPIAL's most versatile players, Cornell showed why he is a threat all over the field Friday.

The senior rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns and also returned a punt 89 yards for another score in a 55-7 blowout of Blackhawk.

Cornell's brother, Brodie, added 101 rushing yards in the win, as West Allegheny went to 3-3 on the season and 3-1 in the challenging Parkway Conference.

In September, Cornell flipped his collegiate commitment from Bucknell to Penn.

John Sciulli, Carlynton

A great story may be emerging at Carlynton, as the Cougars could could be nearing the end of the WPIAL's longest playoff drought.

On Friday, Sciulli helped those efforts, rushing for 129 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-27 victory over Washington.

The Cougars, at 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the Century Conference, will need a Week 9 win over Charleroi and some help to break the streak this coming week.

The 2024 high school football season continues Friday with the Fan Voted KDKA Radio Game of the Week.
