PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Recently dropping men’s and women’s hockey in a cost-cutting move, Robert Morris officials now trying to raise money to save it.
The university partnering with the newly formed Pittsburgh College Hockey Foundation to raise funds to ‘support the reinstatement of RMU’s NCAA Division 1 men’s and women’s ice hockey programs in time for the 2021-22 season’.
The foundation made up of alumni players and other RMU hockey supporters. In a statement, the school says they have already secured a meaningful amount of gifts and pledges.
On Monday, representatives from Robert Morris and the foundation set a deadline of July 31 to find the money to bring the teams back this year and also be sustainable in the future.
The overall goal is raising $7 million over the next five years.
