KDKA Radio, the official audio partner of the WPIAL, has revealed the 2023 schedule for the award-winning coverage of the Allegheny Health Network Sports Medicine Game of the Week.
"This is a special year for us," said Senior Vice President and Market Manager Michael Spacciapolli. "Not only are we celebrating the fifth season of our award-winning Game of the Week coverage, but we also begin our exciting new journey as the flagship home of the WPIAL. Combined with an amazing schedule of games, we can't wait to tell the stories of the student-athletes and their communities, to make for an incredible high school football season on KDKA Radio."
Week 0 - August 25
Pine-Richland at Pickerington-North (OH): A Week 0 tradition of highlighting the defending state champions continues. The Rams face an incredible test against an Ohio powerhouse, just outside of Columbus.
Week 1 - September 1
Armstrong at Aliquippa: KDKA Radio will be there to describe the sites and bring you the excitement at the rededication of 'The Pit' (now Heinz Field).
Week 2 - September 8
McKeesport at Belle-Vernon: The Mighty Leps defend their 3A state title crown against always-strong McKeesport, as the Tigers look for a statement win.
Week 3 - September 15
Franklin Regional at Gateway: Murrysville v. Monroeville. A neighborhood rivalry that pits a pair of teams looking for a quality, conference win that could pay dividends in shaping the playoff picture.
Week 4 - September 22
Central Catholic at North Allegheny: A true heavyweight showdown and a rematch of the 2022 WPIAL 6A Championship. Could it be a preview of the 2023 title game?
Week 5 - September 29
Mt. Lebanon at Upper St. Clair: Two teams with young, developing rosters. The South Hills Showdown pits former conference rivals in a tradition-rich battle
Week 6 - October 6
Gateway at Penn-Trafford: It's the iconic 'Battle for the Bell' game. Far more than bragging rights are the line in this conference showdown.
Week 7 - October 13
Penn Hills at Central Catholic (at West Mifflin High School): A star-studded matchup that had a crazy finish in 2022. The 2023 edition sure isn't lacking Power 5 prospects!
Week 8 - October 20
Pine-Richland at Woodland Hills: Could a section title in 5A be on the line at the historic Wolvarena? We think so!
Week 9 - October 27
KDKARadio.com FAN Vote: After finalists are revealed, the FANS decide where KDKA Radio goes for the final week of the regular season.
Playoffs
KDKA Radio will continue their Game of the Week on-air and multimedia coverage deep in to the postseason. High School football fans can also count on KDKA Radio to broadcast each and every WPIAL Championship game in all six classifications. Additionally, KDKA Radio will provide coverage of every state championship game should a WPIAL or Pittsburgh City League send a representative to Cumberland Valley High School in the PIAA State Championship.
