PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pirates added a second right-handed reliever and this from the other New York team, the Bucs sending High A shortstop Sammy Stafura to the Mets for Luke Weaver, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.




The 32-year-old starter turned reliever had a 1.84 ERA in 42 appearances with the Mets. He’s typically a one-inning guy with 44 total innings, 11 walks and 45 strikeouts. His WHIP was outstanding at 0.81.

The previous two seasons Weaver pitched for the Yankees with a career-high 2.9 WAR and 3.22 ERA in 162 innings with 12 saves. The Pirates will be the eighth team he will pitch for in his career. The 6’2”, 180-pounder is signed through next season at $11 million.

Acquired from the Reds for Ke’Bryan Hayes last year, the 21-year-old Stafura led all of Minor League Baseball in July with 14 home runs and 35 RBIs. He’s 6’, 188 pounds and hits from the right side. Overall, he hit 20 home runs with a .276 average and .960 OPS between Bradenton and Greensboro, 19 of the 20 home runs with Greensboro. He was the Pirates ninth rated prospect.
