A Benedict Arnold? That's what some people are calling Andrew Fillipponi after he expressed his desire for the Steelers to trade for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields after supporting Kenny Pickett so heavily.
"I want Justin Fields, that's where I'm at," Poni said on The PM Team Friday. "I want Fields to be (the Steelers) quarterback."
Poni says he doesn't like any of the quarterbacks that will be available in the draft and doesn't trust the Steelers to draft a Brock Purdy or Tom Brady in the 6th or 7th round.
Pro Football Focus suggested Kirk Cousins could be a landing spot for Pittsburgh, but Poni doesn't want the Steelers spending $40 million a year on a quarterback.
He doesn't want and older Ryan Tannehill either. He doesn't see him having a Kurt Warner-type resurgence.
And he's lukewarm on Kenny Pickett. Even in Matt Canada's offense, he missed open receivers and he could have "permanent damage" done to him because of Canada.
Poni says he's hearing it would take a 3rd round pick or maybe a 2nd for Field.
"I think he's a fit in terms of the way he wants to play and how he plays, what Mike Tomlin like and what Arthur Smith wants," said Poni. "If you have Fields on your team, he's somebody that defenses at least have to spend the week game-planning for scheming for and worrying about because he does something as well anybody but Lamar Jackson in this league."
