Todd Frazier is a non-roster invitee to Pittsburgh Pirates major league camp, competing to extend his MLB career. You wouldn't know how much is on the line for the 35-year-old based on his demeanor, though.
Wearing No. 99 for the Pirates, Frazier had a mic on during Thursday's Grapefruit League matchup with the Baltimore Orioles. That gave him the chance to accurately predict what he needed to do to have success in his at-bat:
Something of a journeyman, Frazier has spent time with the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets (twice) and Texas Rangers. A two-time All-Star, Frazier has 218 home runs during 10 seasons in the league. He split the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with the Rangers and the Mets, slashing .236/.302/.382 with four home runs and 12 RBIs.
At this stage of his career, Frazier isn't an everyday player, but could still provide value for the Pirates as a pinch hitter and potential option to get some at-bats at first base against left-handed starters.
