Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is the latest Heisman Trophy winner to be given a special ‘welcome” to Pittsburgh in the AFC North.
During his weekly visit with the PM Team on Tuesday, new Steelers linebacker Avery Williamson got his first snaps with the Steelers.
In 11 snaps Williamson had 1 tackle.
Williamson said they were able to get into Burrow’s head.
“We didn’t want to give him any room to make positive plays,” said Williamson.
Linebacker T.J. Watt said the Steelers wanted to welcome Burrow to Pittsburgh “the appropriate way.”
“We know Joe Burrow is their franchise quarterback and we’re just trying to let him know what he can expect when he comes to Pittsburgh,” said Watt after the game Sunday.
“That’s what we wanted, to get the point across and I feel like we did a good job,” said Williamson.
Williamson said it felt “good” to get out on the field with the Steelers and that his teammates have been bringing him up to speed on how the defense works.
“It’s different so I’m just trying to learn everything as fast as possible,” said Williamson.
Even though the Jaguars are 1-8, Williamson says they are taking Jacksonville seriously in preparation this week.
