One person was killed and four others were wounded when shots rang out during a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.

Shots were fired during Sunday night's "Krewe of Bacchus Parade," part of the traditional lead-up to Mardi Gras.

A teenager between the ages of 15 and 18, but who wasn't immediately identified, was killed. The other four victims include a 4-year-old girl, a woman and two men ranging in age from 18 to 24. All were treated and released from a hospital.

The shooing happened at St. Charles Avenue and Terpsichore Street as the Krewe of Bacchus paraded by.

The gunman was arrested, but police said they wouldn't rule out the possibility of a second shooter. Two guns were recovered from the scene.

"The New Orleans Police Department has apprehended 21-year-old Mansour Mbodj moments after the shooting occurred last night," Interim New Orleans Police Superintendent Michelle Woodfork said Monday.

Mbodj was initially jailed on a charge of illegally carrying a weapon, but Woodfork said additional evidence led them to secure an arrest warrant for a charge of second-degree murder. She also announced that detectives were still interviewing witnesses and surviving victims.

Chief Woodfork said officers working the parade route and French Quarter have been proactive in taking guns from people not authorized to carry them.

"We have actually recovered 112 guns off of the streets in and around the Mardi Gras area," said Woodfork. "We're serious about making this event truly safe."
