The agency said 911 dispatchers received multiple calls regarding shots fired and a possible gunshot victim.

Patrol officers converged on the location within a couple minutes and discovered evidence of a shooting, but no one at the property.

"A short time later, two victims with gunshot wounds arrived at Hemet Global Medical Center," according to a police statement. "Both had sustained critical injuries and were later taken to a nearby trauma center."

The victims, whose identities were not disclosed, were under intensive care Wednesday.

Patrol officers encountered a car with two people wounded in the same attack. One of the occupants, a boy whose identity wasn't released, died in the vehicle before paramedics arrived, police said.

The driver, also not identified, was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified gunshot wounds.

Detectives on Wednesday were continuing to sort out exactly what happened at the house and whether any suspects remained at large.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact the investigative team at 951-765-2433.
