
A groundbreaking was held in Cudahy on Wednesday for the Amanda Villas Apartments, an affordable housing project for seniors.
National CORE and Prima Development hosted the event. Fernando Vasquez, the CEO of PRIMA Development, told KNX News’ Karen Adams the housing will be the “first of a kind project in the entire West Coast” because it will also have health care components on site.
“It's 140 units senior, affordable housing with half of the units allocated for seniors at risk for homelessness or coming out of homelessness, along with 25,000 square feet of healthcare,” he said.
L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn, whose office contributed $10 million to the project, told Adams that affordable housing like this one is needed.

“Across Los Angeles County, we're seeing more and more of our seniors falling into homelessness,” she said.
The project is expected to be finished in 2027. Vasquez said there’s already a huge waiting list to get a room in the building, as well as a lottery. Vasquez said there’s a substantial waiting list and a lottery system already in place for rooms.
