The union representing flight attendants for American Airlines says it has wrapped up its latest round of contract talks with the company - without reaching a new agreement. Members of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants have been working without a contract since 2019.

American Airlines recently offered an immediate 17% pay raise to the flight attendants, which was rejected by union board members. A statement from the APFA at the time indicated they wanted an industry-leading contract.

The company and the union have been working on talks with the assistance of the National Mediation Board since 2023. The union said the conclusion of the latest round of talks moves them one step closer to a strike against American Airlines.

"American Airlines did not come to the table with an agreement that adequately compensates American’s 28,000 Flight Attendants," said APFA National President Julie Hedrick. "Flight Attendants will move the process forward to secure overdue economic improvements."

The APFA said it would continue internal preparations to strike American Airlines guided by the negotiations process for airline and rail workers under the Railway Labor Act.
