Billionaire investor and philanthropist Tom Steyer is not only the wealthiest candidate to be California's next governor, but he’s also the most progressive.
He spoke with Margaret Carrero about the billionaire’s tax and how he plans to get other billionaires on board with it.
“I'm like, it's a one-time tax. It distributes the money in a completely different way from the way money is normally distributed in the government of the state of California,” he said. “Those are both serious issues. So am I for taxing billionaires? Heck yeah. Definitely, but I want to do it in a way that is consistent, that works over time.”
Steyer also addressed why he divested from the fossil fuel industry and detention centers.
“We bought thousands of stocks, and people are saying, you know, these are bad ideas. I figured out those were bad ideas 20 years ago, and that's actually why I left my business,” he said.
