Beverly Hills School District is working with police to investigate which students are behind the fake nude photos of other students created using AI.
It happened at Beverly Vista Middle School. According to a statement by the school district obtained by CBS News, students reported the photos to administrators.
“As the investigation is progressing today, more victims are being identified,” the statement read. “We are taking every measure to support those affected and to prevent any further incidents.”
Superintendent Dr. Michael Bregy addressed the issue at a district board meeting Tuesday night.
“Clearly, as a teacher and former educator, this has just shaken the foundation of trust and safety that we work with every day to create for all of our students,” he said.
Board member Rachelle Marcus said parents need to protect their children from technology now more than ever.
“Now more than ever, we the parents have to take stronger control of what our students are doing with their phones and that's where I think we are failing completely,” she said.
Dr. Bregy added students involved in this will face punishment, potentially including a recommendation for expulsion.
