PALMDALE, Calif. (KNX) — Angeles National Forest Service firefighters were deployed to a brush fire off of the Angeles Forest Highway around 10:22 a.m. Thursday in Palmdale.

The "Shoening Fire," burning near the Hidden Springs Picnic site, was about 1/4 of an acre when initially reported.

In a tweet Thursday morning, Angeles Forest officials said firefighters were making "good progress" and decisive and aggressive firefighting by L.A. County and Angeles National Forest firefighters helped keep the fire small and helped knock it down quickly.

The brush fire comes as more than 63,000 people in the Southern California region are without power due to gusty winds and Southern California Edison considers shutoffs for another 156,000 customers.
