NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KNX) – A juvenile was arrested Saturday for threats made on social media against schools in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, police said.

The Newport Beach Police Department said it was made aware of social media posts, but that it “did not rise to the level of a crime” until later on the day when the posts included threats of physical harm.

Following an investigation with the help of Costa Mesa Police Department and Newport-Mesa Unified School District, investigators found the juvenile responsible for the posts.

“The individual who posted the information had no means to carry out the threat,” police said in a press release. “Upon completion of the investigation, the juvenile was transferred to the custody of the Orange County Juvenile Hall.”
