A new report found that the Los Angeles Police Department is relying more on drones, having flown them more than 3,500 times in 2025.
The usage, KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian reported, was tied to the department’s Drone as a First Responder program, where a drone is sent out to a call, sometimes getting there before officers, and sending back a live look at what’s happening.
The report also found that drones are being used in high-risk situations, such as tactical operations, where they can help reduce the need to put officers in harm’s way.
The report went before the Police Commission on Tuesday.
