Man stabbed during robbery on Metro bus in Vermont Knolls

Police on Friday are searching for a suspect who allegedly stabbed a man during a robbery aboard a Metro bus in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of Los Angeles and the incident was being investigated as a possible hate crime.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to calls of a stabbing at a bus stop at Figueroa and 80th streets at 10:46 pm. Thursday where they learned the suspect approached the victim, robbed him of a necklace and stabbed him, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

The victim was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital in stable condition,  LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes told City News Service.

According to Metro, the injury sustained by the victim on bus Line 81 was minor.

The suspect ran away from the scene before officers arrived, Cervantes said.

An LAPD spokesman said the incident was being investigated as a possible hate crime, but had no details about why that was the case.
