Legendary film composer John Williams was honored at his alma mater on Wednesday.
North Hollywood High School unveiled its John Williams Performing Arts Center with the composer in attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The 95-year-old, who composed the iconic themes to “Star Wars,” “E.T.,” and “Jaws,” called the school a “magical place” as he recalled walking the halls at the school. He was also impressed by the school marching band's arrangement of his Indiana Jones theme.
“I think you played that better than we could have," he told students. "That’s a hard piece and you did a great job."
He also urged students to use the theater.
“Make it your own place,” he said.
The John Williams Performing Arts Center is 35,000 square feet and is the marquee of a $320 million campus modernization project, as the high school celebrates its centennial.
