An Orange County family was able to escape from a house fire unscathed thanks to their beloved dog.

On Wednesday morning, Fillmore, a black German shorthair pointer, was in the bedroom of his Tustin home while his two humans were asleep. But then, the dog wouldn't stop barking.

“So the two people first woke up with the dog in their room barking, went outside and saw the garage on fire, and went back in and had the other person get out with them,” Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Sean Doran told KNX News’ Emily Valdez. “ In the meantime, they called 911. “They grabbed some garden hoses to try to slow the fire spread, but as they realized quickly, you know, this fire completely engulfing the garage already, the hoses really don't stand a chance against that fire.”

Because of Fillmore woke them up the, firefighters got there in time to save the house, but not the garage.

“He really did his job, and I don't know if this is the sense or their great sense of smell or just felt the vibe in the air. It really was just one of those things that is always amazing about dogs and their ability to just have that sixth sense that we don't,” Capt. Doran said Filmore said.

The cause of the fire was an electrical problem.
