A former Orange County high school teacher who installed cameras to spy on students in the bathroom was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison on Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Siu Kong Sit installed hidden cameras at Beckman High School in Irvine from 2020 through 2023, which created hundreds of images of children and adults “in various states of undress.”
“He was the high school robotics team coach and he placed a hidden camera in the restroom of a hotel room where minor students on the team that he was coaching were staying during a robotics tournament in Texas,” U.S. Attorneys Office spokesperson Ciaran McEvoy told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.
McEvoy said that when investigators searched Sit’s home in Rowland Heights, they found nearly 200 images and videos from the camera, along with child pornography involving toddlers.
Sit pleaded guilty in March to one count of possession of child pornography. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is also pursuing a separate case against Sit for the hidden camera videos of adults.
