Pasadena peacock recovering from postal worker attack

A rare all-white peacock is on the mend after it was attacked by a mailman in a Pasadena neighborhood.

Footage from the surveillance camera of Greg Davis and his wife showed the mailman throwing a rock at the bird, named Sugar. He then came back and struck the bird over the head with a stick.

He just snapped because the peacock does chase him every time he comes,” he told KNX News’ Karen Adams. “He shouldn't have done that. No matter what you do and no matter what the peacock did, there's no reason for him to potentially kill him.”

Davis said Sugar is known to the neighborhood, seen roaming around the streets. While gorgeous, he said Sugar can be “territorial.”

“He was, like, the watch bird of the neighborhood,” he said. “Anybody came around, he would just keep everybody in check.”

The Pasadena Humane Society is now treating Sugar. Spokesperson Kevin McManus says he's expected to be OK.

“He had some swelling around his left eye and some abrasions around his left foot.”

The attack is under investigation by the Humane Society and the US Postal Service.
