KNX News’ Emily Valdez spoke with those waiting in line for food at North Valley Caring Services in North Hollywood.
Elizabeth said she just got on CalFresh in the last two years.
“We got on it just because we were really struggling, and it's hard to think about it, you know?” she said. “Right now, we're here. We're trying to get as much as we can.”
Guadalupe said she’s concerned about her kids.
“I can't work because my son is autistic, and I'm most of the time with him, and my daughter is just two,” she said. “I really don't have nobody [sic] to watch them, and it's really hard just to not know.”

Manny Flores, the executive director of the food pantry, told Valdez he’s also worried.
“It's the most needy populations of our community,” he said. “It's the working poor of our community, and it's also people that have very limited resources that are shut in. All of us now are competing for the same amount of food that is already, I think, decreasing.”
Flores encourages people to donate local food banks.
