Redondo Union High School will be closed Wednesday after two 10th graders brought guns to the school two days in a row.

While the school will be closed, police and K-9s will conduct a search on campus for any weapons.

During a virtual meeting, school superintendent Dr. Nicole Wesley revealed metal detectors are coming to the high school.

“There will be three specific entry points similar to how we did it during COVID,” she said. “There will be metal detectors at those three entry points. Backpacks and purses will be checked again.”

Dr. Wesley added that there will be an increase in security presence on campus.

The first incident happened Monday around 10:30 a.m. Redondo Beach Police said a 15-year-old student was arrested and that it was an isolated incident.

On Tuesday around 9:23 a.m., Redondo Beach Police responded to a report of a student with a weapon on campus. Police said the student tried to run away but was “detained by a school employee and two Redondo Beach Police Officers who were on campus.”

In both incidents, the school went on lockdown.

Classes will resume on Thursday.
