LOS ANGLES (KNX) – Tiffany Haddish took to social media Monday to address the child sexual abuse lawsuit filed against her and comedian Aries Spears.
The brief statement was posted on the comedian’s Instagram. While Haddish said there is very little she can say about the “ongoing legal case,” she expressed her regret.
“But, clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn't funny at all – and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can,” she
A lawsuit filed on Aug. 30 in Los Angeles Superior Court by a woman identified as Jane Doe and her brother, identified as John Doe, claimed the two comedians pressured one of them “to perform sexually suggestive acts” on camera for two comedy sketched, according The Daily Beast.
The lawsuit said Jane, who was 14 at the time of filming, and her brother, who was 7-years-old at this time, took part in a sketch filmed at Spears’ house in2013. The sketch, according to the outlet, was called “The Mind of a Pedophile.” Spears played the pedophile while Haddish played the mother of the 7-year-old boy (played by the lawsuit’s John Doe) who leaves the child with Spears.
The clip was posted on Funny or Die, however, a spokesperson told The Daily Beast, “Funny Or Die found this video absolutely disgusting and would never produce such content. We were not involved with the conceptualization, development, funding, or production of this video. It was uploaded to the site as user-generated content and was removed in 2018 immediately after becoming aware of its existence.”
Attorneys for both Haddish and Spears denied the claims made in the lawsuit.
