A whooping cough outbreak was reported at an elementary school in Pasadena.
On Wednesday, officials with the Pasadena Public Health Department announced they were investigating four cases at Don Benito Fundamental School.
Pertussis is spread through close contact, and symptoms appear five to 21 days after exposure. Symptoms begin with cold-like symptoms and progress to coughing fits with that telltale whooping sound.
Health officials advise parents to keep sick children at home until they've been cleared by a doctor.
