In order to be a competitive eater, you’ve got to have a strong stomach. Not just for the purposes of fitting exorbitant amounts of food in it, but also because those competitors often have to consume food that simply is not designed to be eaten so quickly and/or in such vast quantities.

Joey Chestnut is one of the best to ever do it, but even he has certain foods he has shied away from.
The competitive eating legend is back making national headlines after again winning the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest earlier this month on Independence Day. In the process, he put a protester in a chokehold as he earned his 15th victory in the event.
Chestnut has gained worldwide notoriety for his performances on the Fourth of July. But years ago he took part in a crab cake eating contest, and it did not go well.
"I remember I did a crab cake contest," Chestnut recalled on "Pardon My Take". "When I got on stage I was like 'Whoa these crab cakes, they smell like fish. They had been sitting out for a couple hours. That one made me sick afterwards. And now I love crab cakes, but I really couldn’t have crab cakes for a couple years. It screwed me up.”
If anything, that ordeal only shows that Chestnut is, indeed, human, because inhaling a bunch of crab cakes would probably do a number on most people.
