The Dallas Cowboys had every opportunity to come out on top, but after a late meltdown, they ultimately came up short losing a 28-23 heartbreaker to their arch rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
After missing multiple chances in the second half, including a turnover on downs at the goal line, and a missed two-point conversion that would have cut the Philadelphia lead to a field goal, Dallas still found itself in a position to win the game.
Dallas began its final drive in dire straits, sitting with 86 yards to go with just 46 seconds to go on the clock and no timeouts.
But before they knew it, a handful of nice gains in combination with some ill-timed Eagles penalties put them all the up to the Philadelphia six yard line with 32 seconds to go.
And that is when the meltdown for the Cowboys started, beginning with a false start on Tyler Smith. One play later Dak Prescott was sacked, knocking the cowboys back 11 yards, and taking precious time off the clock.
After an incompletion, Dallas then had another penalty, with Prescott a delay of game, and pushing the offense back to the 27 yard line.
Then, on the final play, the Cowboys threw it up to CeeDee Lamb short of the end zone, where he was tackled by Darius Slay at the four yard line, and ending the game.
It was a devastating loss for the Cowboys, who not only fell to their hated rivals, but also fell to 5-3 giving that rival clear control of the division.
Dallas will now attempt to pick up the pieces and shift their attention to the New York Giants, who come to Arlington next Sunday with a 2-7 record, and dropping six of their last seven games.
