Wichita State has now lost their third straight American Athletic Conference opener, losing Thursday night at Charles Koch Arena to North Texas 74-62.
North Texas opened up a double digit lead just 6:54 into the first half. The Mean Green took a 42-30 lead into the locker room. The start of the second half didn’t get any better for WSU as UNT immediately went on an 8-0 run to stretch their lead 20 points.
Colby Rogers led the Shockers with 18 points, most before halftime as he was held to just 1-of-6 shooting in the second half. Quincy Ballard added 11 points and seven rebounds.
The free throw line proved costly for Wichita State on the night, where the Shockers finished 15-of-27. Wichita State struggled all night on the offensive end, shooting 37 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc. Wichita State also lost the rebound battle to the Mean Green.
Next up for the Shockers, Wichita State hits the road for the first time in conference play with a trip to Philadelphia where the Shockers will face Temple on Sunday.
