Should Chiefs fans be panicking about Juan Thornhill?

Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney called in to answer.

It's been a strange -- to say the least -- training camp for Juan Thornhill. Going into his third season, Thornhill was on the field for 40 snaps during the Chiefs' preseason debut. Then, during the following week of camp, Thornhill practiced almost exclusively with the third-stringers. Is there reason to be concerned? Are Chiefs fans reading too much into late-August training camp rotations? Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney called into Fescoe In The Morning on Tuesday to break it down.

"It's the biggest mystery right now of training camp," Sweeney said. "Because you're seeing him right now get a lot of time in the preseason game. When it's preseason Game 1, and Juan Thornhill is still in the game going into the second and third quarters, and then you go back to camp and he's not really getting a ton of time with the first team, the reporters in the tent are all looking at each other saying, 'What is going on? Is he with special teams?' There was a moment when he was with special teams. It's just not the player we thought we were watching in 2019 before he had that ACL injury in Week 17.

"He really looked like he was getting his feet back under him at the end of last year, but what took me off guard was that it seemed like there was some sort of offseason injury. He was up here immediately with the rookies and the quarterbacks, which always raises you eyebrows, even for a guy with an injury, when you're a veteran. And now he's been a little bit relegated. We're just wondering what's going on. I don't know if there's necessarily reason to panic, but I think there's more there than we're getting lead on at this point. Time will tell with that."
