League 42 has received a gift of $100,000 from Major League Baseball.
The funds will be used to replace the bronze Jackie Robinson statue that was stolen in January and later found burned and in pieces after the report of a trash can fire in Garvey Park.
KSN News reports Ricky A. Alderete was later arrested and charged for the theft that was captured on a surveillance camera attached to a nearby building. Alderete is charged with aggravated criminal damage to property, felony theft, making false information, and identity theft.
The theft of the statue brought national attention to League 42, with an outpouring of support coming from across the country. A GoFundMe set up to assist the league in replacing the statue raised nearly $200,000.
