Ah, the Santa Ana winds.  An Inland Empire staple from the months of October thru March really.  Even though as locals, we are used to them, when we complain about them on Facebook or Twitter to our out-of-town friends, they seem perplexed. It's just WIND.  Who cares?

First, what ARE Santa Ana winds?  They're basically, warm winds that gain speed Inland, and knock everybody on their butts as they move out towards the coast.  They dumb lawn chairs in pools, create gigantic tumbleweeds on the 395 in the High Desert, and knock off palm fronds so big, if you're in a Smart Car, you can totally destroy your undercarriage by driving over them.

They show no mercy.  They can gust so hard that if you're standing anywhere near some sand, you'll get to experience an epic microdermabrasion, minus the expense of a plastic surgeon.

The worst part of Santa Ana winds? They can create devastating wildfires as we are all too familiar with in Southern California.

So, for you out-of-towners, let us Southern California residents complain about it now and again.  The good news? They do assist in blowing out the smog, creating a beautiful backdrop of all Southern California has to offer. Hope you'll come for a visit soon!
