Governor Gavin Newsome announced today that barber shops, hair salons, nail salons, and other personal care services may open under outdoor operations, with restrictions.

The guidelines state "Outdoor operations may be conducted under a tent, canopy, or other sun shelter as long as no more than one side is closed, allowing sufficient outdoor air movement," and "should not perform a service that would require a customer to have to enter the establishment."

California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and Cal/OSHA regulations still apply.  This new guidance also applies to esthetic, skin care, cosmetology and massage therapy in non-healthcare settings, but not electrology, tattooing and piercing services.
