Ron Gonen discusses his new book, "The Waste Free World"
Today, we celebrate Earth Day, an annual demonstration of support for environmental protection.
Our "take-make-waste" economy has cost consumers and taxpayers billions of dollars while cheating us out of a habitable planet. But it doesn't have to be this way.
The new book "The Waste-Free World" by Ron Gonen makes a persuasive, forward-looking case for a "circular economic" model - which means a "closed-loop" system that wastes no natural resources.
It's estimated that the transition to circularity around the globe that can be achieved by 2030 would lead to $4.5 trillion of economic growth. It could mean the biggest transformation of production and consumption since the First Industrial Revolution 250 years ago. In this interview, Ron Gonen, explains the problem with a linear economy, and why a circular economy is superior.
