Supporting small businesses this holiday season
2020 has been cruel to small business owners. More than 160,000 small businesses have shuttered this year and now, as we approach the holiday shopping season, COVID-19 spikes across the country threaten to deal many businesses another crushing blow.
Financial marketing expert, best selling author and founder of Black Hawk Financial, Leanna Haakons, speaks to the dire situation many small businesses are facing and give tips to consumers on how they can safely support their online and local small businesses, including:
· Shop Remotely - A recent study found 65% of respondents stated a fear of catching the virus when holiday shopping is a major concern, but this doesn't mean you can't support your favorite small business. Try shopping their website, if you don't see what you're looking for, give them a call. You'll be amazed how so many businesses are willing to help you find the perfect gift.
· Shop Early - Many entrepreneurs understand that everyone is on a budget this year and there are a finite number of dollars being allocated to holiday gifts. Many small businesses have already launched their Black Friday or Small Business Saturday sales, so why wait?!
· Spread The Word - Consumers can make a tremendous impact on small businesses without spending a dollar. Take a minute to support your favorite businesses by writing five-star reviews across Yelp + Google Reviews or shout them out on your social media handle. People trust the words of friends and family 5x more than a brand message!
