Angelina Jolie has revealed how her personal life is affecting her film career.
Jolie, who is still in the midst of an ongoing divorce from Brad Pitt, disclosed she’s been focusing on acting because a “family situation” won’t let her direct movies lately.
“I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that’s not made it possible for me to direct for a few years,” the mother of six told Entertainment Weekly.
Jolie has directed five films, with her most recent being the 2017 historical thriller “First They Killed My Father.” She is currently promoting her performance in the new action film “Those Who Wish Me Dead.”
“I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs,” the Oscar winner added. “That’s really the truth of it.”
While Jolie didn’t specifically mention Pitt, the former couple have yet to finalize their divorce since first filing in 2016.
The “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” co-stars married in 2014 after being together for nine years. They announced their split in September 2016 and have continued to battle over custody agreement of their six children: Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Last year, the “Girl, Interrupted” star opened up about why she ended her relationship with the “Fight Club” actor.
“I separated for the well-being of my family. It was the right decision,” Jolie told Vogue UK. “I continue to focus on their healing. Some have taken advantage of my silence, and the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I remind them that they know their own truth and their own minds.”
“Those Who Wish Me Dead” will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on May 14.
