Remembering Kris Kristofferson: Country music mourns the icon after his death at 88

Legendary songwriter, Highwayman and Country Music Hall of Fame member, Kris Kristofferson passed away on Saturday (9/28) at the age of 88.

The Texas-native was one of Country Music’s most  legendary  songwriters and musicians, releasing seven solo albums between 1972 and 1979 with hits like “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” among others. Included in his highest honors was being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004 as well as lifetime achievement honors from BMI, The Recording Academy, CMA and ACM.

In addition to his musical talent, Kristofferson also excelled on the big screen. He began acting in 1971 and won a Golden Globe in 1977 for his role in A Star Is Born.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home," a statement from his family reads. "We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.”
