Fans of the 1987 hit movie are getting ready to dive back into the series, and star Jennifer Grey has recently revealed more information about what’s to come for her iconic character.

Lionsgate announced in April that Grey would return “to Kellerman’s in the next chapter” but gave few details as to what could be expected for her character, Frances “Baby” Houseman, whose world is turned upside down by Patrick Swayze’s Johnny Castle after they meet at an upscale Catskills resort in 1963 in the original film.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Grey revealed that she “can’t tell you much, sadly, but I will tell you that [the new chapter] will involve Baby.” She continued, noting that “unless there's a lot of CGI, Baby's going to be a little older.”

Grey shared that “it's going to be Kellerman's, music, dancing, love story, romance,” but that “there will never be another Johnny. There will never be another Patrick. This sequel has got to be its own standalone piece. It's very tricky.”

Filmmakers are currently working on a script, said Grey, revealing that filming will take place “in the spring of 2023, and it comes out on Feb. 9, 2024. So, I guess it's happening!”

No word yet on whether there are plans to film at the Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia like the original movie, with Grey demurring that she “can't tell you that [officially], but I can tell you that [the movie] will involve Kellerman's, so I would guess some of that is yes.”

Earlier this year, Grey told People that she had been working on the sequel with Lionsgate “for a couple of years. And I know in my heart, I would love to give fans or a young, new audience an experience that would never replicate that, but has the same kind of underpinnings,” she said.
