The Post notes that this has become especially important as the retailer prepares for the holiday season.
Many employees are getting $1,000 bonuses over the span of four weeks for showing up to their regularly scheduled shifts, while others are getting an hourly pay increase ranging from $1 to $5 depending on location and job type.
A separate plan gives workers a raise from anywhere from $1 to $5 an hour through January 2022. The raise is dependent on the employees location, the type of job and the hours.
It would apply to 190 of Walmart’s warehouses.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report the pay hikes, which were announced to employees back in June.
A spokesperson for Walmart told the outlet that the warehouses “continue to see high volume as we are preparing for peak season.”
The move comes as many competing retailers are also raising minimum hourly wages to entice and retain workers.
Costco announced it will offer $16, while Target and Amazon already pay $15 an hour.
Meanwhile, Costco recently raised its minimum hourly wage to $16, and Target and Amazon each pay $15 an hour. Target even announced it would be paying for full-time and part-time employees’ college tuition.
Meanwhile, McDonald’s is hoping to appeal to working parents by providing them with childcare options.
